World Wide Web
Introduction:
There are many inventions in the world. One of the most important inventions is the World Wide Web. In the following, I will discuss the history and uses of the World Wide Web and how it has an effect on my area of study which is Network Engineering .
History:
Let us first turn our attention to the history of this invention. For starters, one very important date to take note of is 1980. To illustrate, in that year, Tim Berners-Lee built ENQUIRE which is a personal database of people and software. An additional significant year was 1977. For example, that year marked the time when Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf introduced Transfer Control Protocol (TCP) for cross-network connections. Yet another relevant date in the history of this innovation was 1978. To clarify, at this point in time, they added to the Transfer Control Protocol something called the Internet Protocol (IP) and it was responsible to make the routes for the messages while the TCP is used for cross-network connections. In 1989 Berners-Lee wrote a huge text with many typed links to build a new system. He did this by encouraging Mike Sendall (his boss) in CERN. Moving along to 1990, we see the first web page was built by CERN. After that year, other companies started building websites. By that time World Wide Web technology had a huge popularity. The last date worth looking at was 1993. During that year, CERN allowed people to have their own websites known as personal websites. (History of the Web. 2011) .
The World Wide Web is used for several purposes. First of all, it helps the human race to use the time better in business. For instance, the stock market was well known after the internet boom was known and that market had a huge popularity when it was used on the internet. Another thing to show that the World Wide Web is helpful in doing business is the online shops. Let us move to the uses in education. To illustrate, “the internet should not be disregarded when conducting academic research. It is a major source for scholarly journals, current news, books, credible magazines, general information and other relevant content”. (Top Ten Reviews Contributor) .
This invention has affected my area of study in several ways. For starters, one interesting point to take note of is with regard to virtual facilities. (Overstreet, J. W., & Tzes, A, 2002). The virtual laboratory allows continuous access to experimental setups and is fast becoming possible due to the progress in internet-based networking technology . (Overstreet, J. W., & Tzes, A, 2002).
Yet another relevant point is regarding hardware. To clarify, an example of hardware is monitoring cameras that broadcast what is happening around the website which are used by police for monitoring the cities. For example, the officer or the monitor could see what is happening and he also could control the cameras from his computer using the internet.
To sum up, taking into account all I have mentioned regarding the World Wide Web, we can see that it is a very useful invention that helped the humans to improve their lives .
